SAFETY COORDINATOR

Position Summary: As a project-based position, the Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and providing on-site direction on the company’s Health and Safety programs and policies in compliance with legislative Health and Safety requirements. This position will be instrumental in promoting a culture of safety and proactive risk management. This position is for projects in the Kootenay Region of BC.

Responsibilities:
# Coordinates and administers an effective health and safety program and provides advice and guidance to the Project Team on Health and safety issues and topics
# Performs general administrative and recordkeeping functions and procedures including reviewing subcontractor's safety programs; maintaining inventory for all hazardous products, first aid and personal protective equipment used on site; reporting and tracking incidents & near misses, and maintaining and filing confidential information
# Creates clear and timely “Flash Reports” and participates in detailed, fact-based incident investigations and management
# Implements client and IDL Health and Safety Programs under the coaching of the H&S Manager
# Participates in project safety meetings
# Provides safety material for daily Tool Box meetings and is able to lead Tool Box and Safety meetings
# Engages in the development and enhancement of Safe Work Practices and Job Hazard Assessments
# Acquires basic knowledge of site safety programs, emergency response, fire control systems and personal protective equipment and is able to convey these to project team members & contractors
# Conducts facility inspections and safety audits regularly to monitor safe work practices and procedures
# Prepares inspection reports and ensures corrective action is taken when deficiencies are identified
# Collaborates with the Project Manager and Safety Manager to ensure health and safety programs meet legislative compliance
# Keeps abreast of current and new health and safety laws and regulations, ensuring the company complies with these laws
# Works with management and staff to develop safety solutions and improvements

Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety coordinator role or similar. Industrial Construction industry experience is preferred. Accreditation as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Officer (CSO). Related post-secondary Health & Safety degrees, diplomas and certifications are an asset. Strong understanding of legal health and safety guidelines. Effective communication skills and ability to interact with key stakeholders in verbal, written and electronic form. Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities. Strong computer expertise including experience with MS Word and Excel.
