Our firm is currently recruiting for a Compliance and Conflicts Counsel in our General Counsel Office Department, reporting to General Counsel for a 6-month contract. The Compliance and Conflicts Counsel supports the overall management of compliance and risk matters as well as professional responsibility obligations at the firm. This role requires strong negotiation and communication skills and involves working and supporting a cross-functional team, including the General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, and the firm’s Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Liaising with the Firm’s professional liability insurers to repair lawyer errors and reduce the risk of litigation against the Firm.
Working with the Records Management team to ensure proper information governance and record retention policies are in place.
Developing and delivering training to lawyers and administrative professionals on the law pertaining to ethics and professional responsibility as well as firm policies and procedures relating to risk management.
Negotiating and drafting agreements on behalf of the Firm in order to reduce risk and secure favourable terms.
Supporting the update, development, implementation, and communication of Firm policies and procedures.
Researching legal and regulatory developments and draft memoranda.

Licensed to practice law in Ontario, Alberta or British Columbia and in good standing
A minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience in a large law firm environment and/or in-house legal department
Superior legal research and writing capabilities
Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) to a broad range of audiences including partners, senior management, and clients
Ability to balance risk management and practical business judgement
Adaptability and openness to crafting creative solutions to complex problems.

Employment Type : Fixed-Term (6-Month Contract )
