Position Overview

Our Community Planning Department has a temporary (16 weeks) full-time opportunity for a Clerk 2 (Summer Student) to join their team. This position is contingent on funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program which provides wage subsidies to employees to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years of age. In this role you will work primarily on the youth portfolio, focused on the Youth Friendly North Shore Plan. You may also work with databases and statistics and conduct analysis in a variety of other areas within the Community Planning portfolios (e.g. social planning, child care, poverty reduction, housing).

Responsibilities
As a Clerk 2 (Summer Student) on the implementation team for the Youth Friendly North Shore Plan, you will be engaged in diverse activities that offer significant opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Examples of duties are noted below (note this is not exhaustive):
  • Document both qualitative and quantitative information, collect statistics and help to prepare reports.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in activities planned in community.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners (e.g. other municipal departments, non-profit organizations, public sector partners) on acitivites planned over the summer.

Key responsibilities and skill development areas include:
  • Adaptability : You will adapt to team feedback and adjust your approach accordingly to meet project goals effectively.
  • Collaboration : You will work closely with various stakeholders, both within the team and externally with partners from municipal departments, non-profits, schools, and health organizations.
  • Communication : Engage in active listening and clear communication when interacting with youth participants, providing instructions, and discussing ideas with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Creativity and Innovation : Contribute innovative ideas and approaches to enhance the implementation of the Youth Friendly North Shore Plan.
  • Digital Skills : Utilize digital tools and platforms for data collection, reporting, and communication.
  • Numeracy : Apply numeracy skills in collecting and analysing quantitative data related to project outcomes.
  • Problem-solving : Tackle challenges that arise during project implementation by applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical Skills : Gain hands-on experience in project management, documentation, and reporting tasks.
This position offers a holistic learning experience, supported by a dedicated project team and external partners, which will enhance your professional capabilities and prepare you for your future roles in community planning, community development and project management.

Qualifications


Please note this position is contingent on funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program which provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work (experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years of age.

  • Be between the age of 15 and 30 years of age and be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid SIN , be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Not hold another full-time (30 or more hours) summer job.
