At Ganotec, one of our guiding principles on every project and in every office is, “Nobody Gets Hurt” and we’re currently looking for a Safety Specialist who will support our safety programs and reinforce our commitment to safety on construction projects. As a Safety Specialist, you will report to the District Safety Manager. You will assist in the application of the contract, client safety expectations, the Corporate Safety Manual, District Standards, and all laws governing the work. You will provide administrative and clerical safety support as needed. Ganotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including, civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical / instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages. We have always been a strong proponent of “partnering”, working in collaboration with owners, major equipment suppliers and engineers at the early stages of the project development phase to allow for a more cost-effective execution strategy for the project. Assist in the development, review, updating, and communication of the SSSP to everyone including subcontractors
# Collaborate with the craft every day in the field to encourage buy-in of our safety program and to support craft ownership of the safety program
# Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans, work packs, and detailed work plans
# Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field every day based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work
# Assist with maintaining project files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations and in compliance with our policies including accident/injury files
# Assist with first aid and maintain relationships with emergency medical services and clinics
# Assist with incident investigations, and implementation of effective solution
# Complete a daily documented hazard inspection and assist operations, craft, and subcontractors with implementation of corrective actions
# Assist and provide safety training on policies, procedures, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client specific requirements

Safety Officer Card (CNESST)
Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements
Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician is preferred
Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) is considered as an asset since mobility across provinces in Canada is required. Project Safety Coordinator, Onsite Safety Coordinator, Field Safety Coordinator, “Environmental, Health & Safety Coordinator”, EH&S Coordinator
Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Work overtime and weekends as required.
