The Cancer Systems and Innovation Division supports initiatives to improve equitable access, to better experiences and outcomes, and to advance reconciliation throughout Canada’s cancer system. The division enables system change with data, research, innovation, and modelling. The incumbent is a strategic and inspiring leader who will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of large-scale, sustainable approaches to cancer prevention through collaboration with our partners. Reporting to the Director, Prevention, Performance Measurement and Evaluation the incumbent will also be responsible, working with other teams, to ensure the work reflects Indigenous cultural competence and addresses the needs of equity-denied populations across Canada, with an overall vision to reduce the burden of cancer for all people in Canada.
Holds accountability for the development, implementation, and evaluation of pan-Canadian cancer prevention initiatives and projects, including maintenance of processes and methods to advance Prevention initiatives in alignment with organizational priorities, including elimination of cervical cancer, smoking cessation, and supporting evidence-informed cancer prevention policies.
Identifies opportunities to embed considerations and prioritization of efforts to advance health equity, commitment to reconciliation and ultimately advancing efforts to close equity gaps in cancer prevention initiatives.
Leads and supports staff to implement projects and achieve team objectives.
Coaches and develops staff including the annual performance management process.
Ensures a positive team culture that reflects the Partnership’s values and principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Liaises with federal/provincial/territorial/regional governments/cancer agencies/health authorities, First Nations, Inuit and Métis governments and organizations, national chronic disease prevention partners, academics, and professional association partners, as well as patient and public representatives with lived experience to develop, implement and evaluate Prevention initiatives.
Provides oversight, develops strategies, and leads processes to support the adoption and implementation of Prevention initiatives.
Collaborates with others to develop and monitor Prevention project milestones, timelines, budgets, risks, and contracts to ensure programmatic objectives and outcomes are met.
Acts as primary contact and source of information for internal and external stakeholders regarding program/project content, status, and findings.
Manages external partner agreements, workplans, and vendor contracts.
Supports the Director in strategic program planning, including the development of the annual work plan and budget, long-term plans, and determining the outcomes of projects/programs.
Facilitates the integration of expert advice into program/project work to further organizational outcomes.
Works closely with others to contribute content expertise to project opportunity assessments and project plans and ensures alignment with the Partnership’s goals and priorities.
Oversees and actively contributes to progress reporting as required for senior management, the Board of Directors and Health Canada.
Leads and supports staff to implement projects and achieve team objectives.
Coaches and develops staff on an ongoing basis and through the annual performance management process and fosters a safe space for creativity and growth opportunities
Prepares and presents content and/or represents the Prevention team at meetings, both internal and external, and/or conferences and other forums as directed.
Assists the Director with other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Graduate degree in health sciences, Public Health, or other relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
~ 1-3 years experience leading, managing, coaching, holding accountable and motivating a diverse team of professionals with a commitment to continuous learning, innovation and developing others.
~ Experience managing complex large-scale initiatives and projects from inception through to implementation and evaluation while balancing political, jurisdictional, and other partner interests, with ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment.
~ Experience working with governments and health authorities, experience at the pan-Canadian level is an asset.
~ Education and/or experience working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis populations and/or other equity-denied populations in Canada is an asset.
~ Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive) and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Bilingual in both English and French is an asset
