Company Description Western Copper and Gold (TSX/NYSE American: WRN) is advancing the world-class, critical minerals Casino mining project through environmental permitting, development and ultimately project construction in the Yukon. Position Summary The Company is looking for a Project Engineer to provide engineering support for the Casino copper and gold project in the Yukon Territory. The role is responsible for managing multi-disciplinary technical and project controls scopes across the Project with particular focus on civil engineering and site investigations. The role is responsible for compiling the knowledge of current project design basis, evolving technologies and practices, managing consultants, conducting trade-off studies, assessing alternatives, and conducting value engineering. The Project Engineer will report directly to the VP, Projects. Location The Project Engineer will ideally be based either in the Yukon or Greater Vancouver, BC with frequent travel to Whitehorse, YT, with a preference given to Greater Vancouver. Regular site visits will be required for coordinating directly with our Whitehorse office and may also be required for site-based management work. Key Responsibilities Manage the engineering and design of Company civil and other discipline-related projects. Produce and evaluate multiple scenarios of infrastructure development, mine waste and ore management plans, schedules, and capital plans with multiple, competing constraints to determine optimal paths forward. These relate mostly to Project components like tailings and heap leach foundations and embankments, stockpiles, water management systems, and roads. Conduct or manage fit-for-purpose trade off studies and other cost-benefit-based assessments. Develop plans for and manage technical field programs including the supporting operational services and functions. Prepare and review scopes of work, studies, design criteria, reports, plans and specifications. Prepare, evaluate, administer, and continuously improve Engineering contracts in accordance with the Company’s contract philosophy. Lead multi-disciplinary technical teams through advancement of the project. Manage scope, budget, cost and schedule to ensure engineering projects are executed on time, on budget and in line with quality standards. Identify, understand and apply technical opportunities and mitigate risks. Maintain proactive and open communication, providing accurate technical data, as well as insightful interpretation of that data. Facilitate design reviews with all stakeholders. Collaborate with the Environmental Team to ensure technical designs are coordinated for environmental data gathering and analysis and regulatory constraints and options. Collaborate with the Community Affairs Team to ensure information is shared with and input received from community of interests. Collaborate with project leadership to develop the project’s key milestones, timelines and deliverables. Collaborate on document management to ensure historical project documents are carefully archived for record purposes and current information is well-organized and readily accessible. Facilitate or participate in risk reviews, HAZOP, opportunity framing workshops, etc. Attend or lead meetings and ensure minutes are taken and distributed. Provide regular progress reporting and communicate evaluations and technical recommendations. Support the development and successful integration of Company-wide policies, standards and best practices for engineering operations and designs. Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement regarding health, safety, operational efficiency and cost management. Maintain relationships with mining experts within the industry to keep informed on mining developments. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Civil - Geotechnical preferred. P. Eng is an asset. Minimum 10 years’ engineering experience with progressively increased management responsibilities. Proven experience in managing engineering for a major mining project through various stages of development with a particular focus on feasibility and permitting. PMP designation is an asset. Proven experience in field operations including managing site investigations or construction projects is an asset. Experience at an operating mine and with a design engineering firm, with significant exposure to copper, gold and metallurgical processes is an asset Required Skills Strategic thinker with strong consultative skills and a practical, hands-on leader. Highly collaborative, credible and communicative style that fosters the development of strong relationships and trust at all levels of the organization. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Excellent communication skills, including presenting to management and other key stakeholders. Ability to identify key technical and business issues and develop innovative solutions. The approximate salary for the Project Engineer is $150,000 and will be based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
