POSITION DESCRIPTION

Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre (QCFC) requires a Co-Executive Director. The Co-Executive Director is a part of an exciting co-leadership team at QCFC. Each Co-ED functions as the leader of their portfolio of responsibilities and the position will be tailored to the successful applicant’s expertise. The Co-ED is a dedicated leader who has the advocacy experience, business skills and commitment to lead by example and ensure the continued development and sustainability of QCFC. 

Working in collaboration with the Co-ED and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Co-Executive Director will be responsible for the management and operations of QCFC. They are responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with funders and other partners, and for collaborating in the development of advocacy and program development. Candidates will receive mentorship and professional development on the job. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operational management responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the strategic plan and annual budgeting process to ensure sustained operations
  • Perform fundraising activities and manage donor relationships, which include grant writing, donor communications, stewardship tracking, and reporting
  • Manage public communications and act as a media spokesperson for QCFC
  • Recruit, supervise and support the staff team
  • Ensure a strong governance framework for the organization
  • Provide visionary leadership, including strategic direction and long-term sustainability
  • Ensure general maintenance of the facility

Programs and advocacy management responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support the development, facilitation, and evaluation of programs and advocacy initiatives
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government institutions to advance food sovereignty and security in Nunavut
  • Participate in consultations, steering committees, and other territorial and national networks to advance food sovereignty and security in Nunavut
  • Develop a strategy for QCFC’s engagement and participation in international spaces key to the development of Canada’s human rights policies

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in the social sciences or business, with additional fundraising or financial education or experience an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a managerial role 
  • Knowledge of the issues related to QCFC’s mandate
  • Proven track record of strong, compassionate leadership
  • Exceptional ability to foster a collaborative culture with leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors
  • Strong writing and communication skills 
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, implement, oversee, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, and ability to work with various software (experience with Keela and NetSuite is an asset)
  • Experience living and working in Nunavut is a strong asset
  • Fluency in Inuktitut is a strong asset
  • Experience working in the food services industry is an asset
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset
  • Other lived experiences, education, and skills will be considered in lieu of formal education and related work experience

A vulnerable sector check and positive references may be requested. In conformance with Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, preference will be given to Inuit applicants.
