The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory Mathematics and Statistics courses, the candidate will also be expected to teach upper-level courses, supervise undergraduate honours theses, and participate in program development. This interdisciplinary department has 15 members with five mathematicians whose research spans several fields, and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research.
The Department seeks applicants with strong research potential whose expertise is in a field of mathematics complementary to the current research interests of the Department. D. in Pure/Applied Mathematics or Statistics and will be expected to establish an independent and recognized research program in mathematics. Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and the involvement of undergraduates in research is a focus. Candidates who are in the later stages of their doctorate may be considered with the successful completion of the doctorate being a condition of employment.
The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload.While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
Applications will include a cover letter describing the intentions and principal expertise of the applicant, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, a statement of research interests, a diversity statement, a complete resume that includes a current publication list. Applications must also include at least three reference letters with at least one that describes teaching effectiveness. The union affiliation of this position is with the Cape Breton University Faculty Association.
