Berens River School is a Nursery to Grade 9 School with approximately 429 students. Berens River is a community of approximately 3,546 located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, a 4 hour drive north of Winnipeg. This lakeside town offers community services such as a general store, Northern store and a community hall. The beautiful surrounding area is a recreational paradise offering a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and canoeing.
Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
Fluency in the Saulteaux language both written and oral
Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action
Previous teaching experience
Familiarity with the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Aboriginal Languages and Culture: Provide instruction to increase students ability to understand, speak and use a written form of the Saulteaux language and improve cultural knowledge
Gather resources to support language instruction including localized knowledge/speakers
Establish community connections with the local associations and organizations that promote Indigenous Languages and Way of Life
Facilitate the coordination of school cultural activities in cooperation with fellow teachers and community knowledge keepers
list of three professional references including email addresses and contact numbers, all of whom must have knowledge of the applicant’s performance in the applicant’s current or recent assignment
and Child Abuse Registry Check, at their own expense. Reasonable accommodations are available for persons with disabilities on request.
