Position Summary

The BIM Specialist assists in obtaining, evaluating, and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents. Using Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools and processes to optimize project workflows, the BIM Technician ensures all construction projects are built to the highest level of quality possible.

As a BIM Specialist your key accountabilities will involve:

  • Control and maintain models in an organized manner in the appropriate project directory system, as per company standards.
  • Utilize collaboration techniques for information management and implement Building Information Modelling (BIM).
  • Actively promote and contribute to the successful completion of projects from initial concept, through the planning process to implementation.
  • Facilitate the timely and orderly collection and/or coordination of all consultant BIM models.
  • Work with the project team to develop and implement schedule visualization workflows.
  • Educate and guide the site team on the workflows related to schedule visualization.
  • Facilitate, in conjunction with the site team, the site logistics plan in a model environment and assist the site team in the development of schedule visualization models.
  • Review models from designers, subcontractors, and others to ensure proper coordination and installation.
  • Run all clash reports using design models issued by design consultants and/or models created by the Ventana BIM department.
  • Issue RFI clash detection report and work with the project teams to refine the document to the final issued version.
  • Run clash report and coordinate subcontractor shop drawing models against design.
  • Model various disciplines from 2D designs for use in clash detection and constructability methods.
  • Assist in the administration of the BIM Execution Plan as prescribed by either the Consultant or Client.
  • During the pursuit stage, work with the project team to review and recommend scopes that BIM tools and processes can be incorporated into the project.
  • Perform design coordination and assist in identifying constructability issues with the project team and subcontractors.
  • Assist in training project staff and subcontractors on BIM-related workflows as required.
  • Prepare 4D simulations on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Perform various project duties related to project BIM deployment as required.
  • May participate in proposal writing with respect to BIM and other integrated technologies.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by the BIM Manager.

As a BIM Specialist your experience and qualifications will include:

  • Architectural Technology Diploma or B. Arch; Revit MEP. from BCIT, SAIT or any technical institution.
  • Between 2-5 years’ experience working as a BIM Specialist.
  • Proficient with Navisworks, Revit and Collaborate Pro.
  • Experience with 4D modelling and 5D takeoff is considered an asset.
  • Experience within Construction or Architecture is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with emphasis on priorities and goal setting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical to staff members and customers, in a clear and concise manner.
