The Opportunity: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for routine handyman duties. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating contractors and ensuring the physical condition and appearance of the building are of the utmost standard.

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Technician is to ensure that the assigned building or complex of buildings is being managed and maintained in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and to the highest level of operational efficiency.

What You Will Do:

  • contribute as an integral part of a building operations team.
  • schedule annual maintenances and ensure safety standards are in compliance.
  • service automatic washroom fixtures.
  • be familiar with the electrical and lighting systems in the building.
  • maintain an inventory of parts and supplies.
  • monthly testing of emergency generator.
  • carry out lamp and ballast replacement.
  • assisting with preventative maintenance and unscheduled repairs.
  • general maintenance including food court and general housekeeping such as sweeping, litter pick up, shoveling and pressure washing.
  • assisting with environmental assessments and reporting.
  • participating in corporate occupational health and safety program.
  • assisting with waste, recycling and hazardous materials issues.
  • responding to tenant service requests.
  • Embrace and proactively support BentallGreenOak's culture of environmental responsibility and social responsibility.
  • other assigned duties.

Who You Are:

  • Experience - previous maintenance/construction experience ; work experience in commercial / retail building operations an asset but not a requirement.
  • Communication & Relationship Skills / Personal Character Traits - ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Time Management - ability to allocate one’s time effectively; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities, adapts to new ideas and embraces change.
  • Organizational & Leadership Skills – ensure operations records, files and documentation are maintained in an orderly, accurate and timely fashion.
  • Decision Making Skills - ability to achieve goals using logical and strategic approaches to resolving challenges.
  • Entry level use of Microsoft Office
  • Working Environment - on occasion requires involvement in repairs or maintenance in inclement weather or uncomfortable environmental working conditions; may be required to attend to after-hours emergency situations; requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort and must be able to move quickly in emergency situations; is able to thrive within a busy working environment.
  • Police Clearance : A criminal verification check is required for employment

The Expected Base Pay: $55,000.00 - The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. BGO values the contribution of our employees and our compensation structure may vary based on the geographical location of successful candidates, as well as their experience, skills or qualifications. In addition to base pay, eligible BGO employees participate in various incentive compensation plans, based on individual and business performance as well as a broad range of competitive benefits.
