LEAD PASTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION

Rockbridge Alliance Church

POSITION CONCEPT:

The LEAD PASTOR shall provide leadership/mentorship in all areas of church ministry in these ways:

To be actively involved in leading all members and adherents of all ages to full Christian maturity. A mature Christian defined as:

To act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God

having a working knowledge of the Bible

living a disciplined Christian life

exhibiting evidence of the fruit of the Spirit

understands spiritual gifts and exercising them

having the ability to share Christ with others

Recast and implement the vision statement of Rockbridge Alliance Church – “A family of God showing the Love and Truth of Jesus in our families, in our neighborhood, in our city and in our world.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Make “prayer and ministry of the Word” (Acts 6:4) their highest priority.

Oversee and accept responsibility for ALL ministries of Rockbridge Alliance Church.

With the Board of Elders and the Executive Committee, develop, implement, and communicate God’s vision for our church. Accept responsibility for keeping the vision “in front” of the congregation.

Plan and conduct regular meetings with all Staff to ensure a cohesive team atmosphere and attitude is maintained enabling staff to carry out all duties and responsibilities consistent with the vision, goals and objectives of Rockbridge Alliance Church.

Plan and conduct regular meetings with the Board of Elders and Executive Committee to ensure a team atmosphere and attitude is maintained which will enable the Church Leadership to carry out all duties and responsibilities consistent with the vision, goals and objectives of Rockbridge Alliance Church.

Attend and/or chair all appropriate committees.

In keeping with Ephesians 4:12, make the equipping of “God’s people for works of service…” a high priority, i.e. a high level of commitment to meaningful, effective lay ministry.

Accept responsibility for the coordination and supervision of all worship services. This will involve accepting the primary preaching lead as well as involving others within and outside the congregation when appropriate.

With the Board of Elders and/or designated committees make decisions related to the staffing needs of Rockbridge Alliance Church.

Prepare and submit annual reports and budgets.

Make pastoral visits to congregational members, adherents or guest to give pastoral care and support.

To encourage and facilitate the outreach programs of the church.

Continue to enhance the diversity of multi-cultural ministries within Rockbridge Alliance Church

To encourage and support Global Missions in the local church body.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Elders, District Superintendent, or District Executive Committee (DEXCOM).

RELATIONSHIPS:

The Lead Pastor will conduct regular Staff and Elder and Executive Committee meetings as well as other committee meetings that may be deemed necessary to fulfilling his ministry responsibilities.

The Lead Pastor will accept their role as a growing example of Christian maturity to the people of Rockbridge Alliance Church – “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care… not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:-3) (see also 1 Timothy 4:12).

The Lead Pastor will support other Staff members, Elders, Executive committee and members of the congregation in prayer, words, and action.

The Lead Pastor will model effective leadership skills by providing leadership and support to all staff, elders, and other leaders.

The Lead Pastor will maintain positive contacts and relationships with other Regina pastors.

RESPONSIBIILITIES TO CHURCH LEADERS:

Work in harmony with all church policies, by-laws and doctrine.

Attend appropriate congregational meetings regularly or when called upon to do so.

Submit to the direction and authority of the Elder’s Board and/or the District Superintendent
