Director of Operations

Collaborating closely with company leadership and the production team, the Director of Operations will play a vital role as a proactive, on-site leader focused on people leadership, driving continuous improvement and supporting the company's growth. They will prioritize both financial stability and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee site production operations, project timelines, scheduling and employee productivity
  • Foster and nurture a highly inclusive team culture centered around safety, accountability and teamwork
  • Lead safety initiatives by implementing the safety program and monitoring the safety performance of team members and subcontractors
  • Provide effective people leadership by cultivating strong relationships with team members, subcontractors, and customers to boost morale
  • Take primary responsibility for people leadership, site production, project delivery, and supporting and coaching production supervisors, emphasizing safety and employee development
  • Support construction and project coordinator teams to develop and drive the construction schedule ensuring that completion dates and milestones are met
  • Strategically lead, manage, and coordinate team members from different departments to ensure efficiency and to create a team based and cohesive environment
  • Build and steward trust with a broad network of professional colleagues, subcontractors and team members to achieve pride in teamwork and outstanding project delivery
  • Apply financial management experience to plan, manage and respect project budgets, costs and associated purchasing
  • Share your knowledge and be a role model through mentorship opportunities with project team members
  • Effectively apply the requirements of the project specific safety standards to promote HS&E standards, applicable OH&S acts, regulations and codes
  • Evaluate current processes and introduce improved policies and technologies to enhance business performance
  • Engage in day travel to various locations within Greater Toronto area as required

Qualifications & Attributes

  • University Degree/Technology Diploma in Construction / Building Renovation, or a combination of education and industry experience
  • Track record of success in both Project Management and Site Management roles
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in construction, preferably low-rise new construction
  • Direct field supervision of Operations Managers and foreman of large low-rise projects; installation experience is a plus
  • Competence in safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality, and administration
  • Sound knowledge of construction and building techniques and ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of project methodologies, financial management, as well as building codes and associated legislation
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including MS Project
  • Any additional language skills would be considered an asset
  • Ability to successfully navigate high intensity environments with adaptability, resilience and decisive action
  • High level of integrity, strong interpersonal skills combined with the ability to build consensus amongst team members, while instilling a strong emphasis on responsibility and accountability

  • Proficient in risk management and oversight of potential issues, implementing early mitigation
  • Ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues to bring the project to successful completion
  • Pragmatic approach to complex scenarios
