The District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) is a mission-oriented emergency services agency focused on the safety and well being of the community. With over 130 firefighters, command, training, and support staff at five fire stations, we serve the District’s 160 square kilometres of urban and wilderness land, and our 82,500 residents. The DNVFRS is the first career department in BC and 9 th in Canada to achieve Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
The Assistant Fire Chief at the District of North Vancouver Fire Service (DNVFS) is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the management of employees in the Public Safety & Technology Division, including recruitment, coaching, training, wellness management, performance management, and discipline. In addition to managing staff, this role involves planning and leading fire inspection and prevention programs, responding to emergency calls, overseeing fire investigations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, building relationships with other City departments, reviewing new developments for compliance, overseeing technology and communication systems, developing business processes and continuity plans, providing data and analytics support, participating in labour relations matters, and coordinating public relations campaigns on fire safety.
With a focus on innovation and collaboration, the DNVFS is transitioning into a state-of-the-art, 21st-century Fire Service, making this an exciting time to join the team in a senior leadership capacity. They should have a strong knowledge of Fire & Rescue administrative functions, budgets, labour relations, and strategic planning, as well as practical, technical, supervisory, and administrative experience in fire prevention and operations.

NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications - Fire Officer IV.
Executive Fire Chief Officer (ECFO) and/or Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation.
Candidates must have demonstrated leadership experience with progressive responsibility and supervisory experience in the Fire Service.
Have completed formal post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership or a related field.
Demonstrated computer competency in related business and office software programs.
Demonstrated business writing competency including briefings, memorandums and reports.

Driver’s License, Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement.
NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications – Fire Officer III.
NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer - Incident Safety Officer.
NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications – Level II.
Emergency Medical Assistant – First Responder Level-III (Higher or Equivalent Accepted)
