What to Expect in this Role:

You will be working with a team of professionals in one our HunterCrescent Group Home in the Northeast area of Calgary . On this team, you will be supporting a variety of Individuals will complex behaviors and disabilities. Your expectation will be to motivate our Individuals to be independent and have a valued role in the community. You'll be working with a culturally diverse team of 12 members to provide support to adults with diagnoses including developmental disabilities, autism, and ADHD in a group living setting.

The individuals living in this home range in their levels of independence as well as their levels of communication. Staff will be provided with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training if they do not currently have it, and will be expected to be competent and confident to use CPI stills as needed, as situations could occur when verbal de-escalation or holds are required. With this team you will provide these individuals direct support to meet their goals and live their lives to the fullest. You will follow the individualized support plans for each individual to help them work towards and achieve their goals. The Individuals you work with may require personal care, g-tube feedings, for you to drive and accompany them to medical appointments, cooking, communicating with guardians, community outings, or other assistance in their daily activities.

  • Provide environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
  • Driving clients as needed to medical appointments, social outings, etc.
  • Providing personal care to individuals you are supporting
  • Assisting with daily housekeeping chores including cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.
  • Communication with guardians, assisting in ISP development planning
  • Engaging and participating in activities like swimming and community outings with individuals
  • Proactively identify and develop solution for client concerns
  • Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand client needs
  • Complete required client documentation effectively

About you:

You are someone who has a personable demeanor, who is compassionate and attentive, and has with proven critical thinking skills. You are a problem solver, and are not afraid to try new things and consistently demonstrate strong communication skills. You are able to work with others well and follow directions. You are responsible, patient, and can keep calm under pressure. You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to really get to know your client and act in their best interest, while maintaining professional boundaries.

Schedule:


This pe rmanent p osition is 40 hours/week. This is a rotational schedule that includes dating, evenings and weekends with a switch every two weeks making it a total of a 12 week rotation. This schedule at this location will be rotational depending on the team's needs and requirement in the future.

  • The starting rate for this position is $21.19/hour
  • Mileage is reimbursed at $0.50/km
  • Cost shared benefits will begin after 3 months’ probation
  • This role includes 4% vacationpay plus an additional 5 flex days after the first 3 months of employment
  • All regular staff are eligible to pick up additional casual hours at any of our locations outside of their scheduled hours
Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate/Diploma in theHuman Services or Disability sector (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Intermediate computer skills and MS Office proficiency
  • Valid class 5 driver ’s license and a reliable vehicle , withminimum $2,000,000 liability insuranceby time of hire
  • Training in First Aid & CPR will be an asset
  • Previous experience in a group home location
  • Current knowledge of non-verbal Individuals or behaviors will be an asset
  • Comfortable supporting Individuals with diverse disabilities and complex diagnoses

Preferred Requirements:

  • One-year relevant experience in thehuman services fieldand/or prior experience in a fast-paced day program/outreach is preferred
  • Previous experience with autism
  • Knowledge of CPI, de-escalation skills, sensory needs and patience
