NATIONAL OCCUPATION CODE 21310POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Generation Design Department. Under the general direction of the Generation Apparatus Design – Team lead, you will independently perform duties of moderate complexity in the field of electrical engineering for equipment standard development, design, tender preparation, review, analysis and purchase recommendations, commissioning, and training associated with generation apparatus, protection systems and auxiliary systems in generating stations. The position involves carrying out a variety of engineering assignments, which requires familiarity with broad fields of generation system engineering. Responsibilities:

  • Participates on project teams and takes a lead role on small to medium projects.
  • Participate in scope development and prepare studies, technical specifications, recommendations, design calculations, design packages, estimates, manuals, commissioning procedures, and other various deliverables for generation apparatus, protection, and auxiliary systems for new and existing generating stations.
  • Perform arc flash assessments and calculations and review assessments prepared by others.
  • Perform software analysis/simulations utilizing programs such as Easy Power.
  • Provide specialized engineering skills in all development and application aspects of generation apparatus including the protection systems, transformers, breakers, and auxiliary systems for generating stations.
  • Provide technical guidance to technical staff within the department and other departments.
  • Liaise with other departments, divisions, and business units for correlation of design criteria.
  • Lead commissioning as required.
  • Advise external consultants, suppliers, and contractors of Manitoba Hydro design requirements and review their deliverables to ensure they meet design criteria, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze quotations and tenders and prepare recommendations to award.
  • Witness manufacturer's factory acceptance tests and on-site tests, as required.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing plus a minimum of six years of electrical experience with two years design experience specific to the position.
  • Professional Member in good standing with Engineer Geoscientist Manitoba.
  • Working knowledge of Apparatus equipment including Generator Step-Up Transformers, Generator Circuit Breakers, DC and AC Systems.
  • Working knowledge of generation unit, transformer, and station service protection schemes and equipment including IEDs, relays, CTs, and VTs.
  • Working knowledge of Arc Flash Hazard Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering design, codes, standards, and practices as they pertain to generating stations and associated infrastructure as well as internal processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintain an understanding of applicable engineering/safety standards and legislation.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute design projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Capable of communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others and participate on project teams.
  • Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e., air, land, and water.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Drivers' licence.
