As a Trial Lawyer, you will manage your own portfolio of files from inception through to resolution and completion. You will be responsible for reviewing files, providing legal opinions, attending discoveries, following up on production requests, and handling motions, mediations, pre-trials and trials.Accountabilities:Review new file assignments and draft initial pleadings and prepare discoveryPrepare for and attend at case conferences, questionings, mediations, pre-trials and trialsPerform due diligence; gather all relevant facts and documents; collaborate with clients, paralegals and/or other lawyers is assessment of file;Research and determine applicable and pertinent laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; identify legal issuesMonitor and review new laws, regulations, and case law; identify and summarize relevant issues; collaborate with other areas of Law & Regulation department; proactively provide advice and counsel to business unit on the impact of new laws on businessProvide advice and/or legal approval related to company documents, policy, practices, and proceduresDraft, review and/or negotiate basic mattersDraft and/or review routine correspondence and communicationsRespond to claims inquiresGather facts from client to understand goals and objectives client intends to achieve from actionWork with business colleagues to develop and implement changeDetermine if/how business processes/practices need to be modified and work with client to implement changeQualifications:Must have a Law Degree and be a member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing5+ years’ experience working in Insurance DefencePersonal Injury & Accident Benefit experience is essentialExperience with issue managementAbility to influence othersPossesses analytical skills, utilizing knowledge of the law for sound decision-makingExcellent technical, drafting, reporting, and research skills are required.Ability to work independently and as part of a teamExercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive informationComputer skills including MS Office SuiteAbility to interact well with all levels of the organizationAllstate Canada Group has policies and practices that provide workplace accommodations.
