Summary

The Mechanical HVAC Projects Estimator will be responsible for preparing and overseeing preparation of detailed cost estimates for business in following key areas: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Building Automation and General Trades Construction work.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Cost Estimates
    • Prepares detailed Cost Estimates for Mechanical retrofit and replacement M&E HVAC Projects.
    • Obtain and negotiate equipment and subcontractor pricing.
    • Creates & maintains consistent and reliable costing templates by client, region and/ or type.
    • Responsible for the quality & accuracy of estimating process and tools.
    • Develops, coordinates and maintains a cost benchmarking process.
    • Standardizes price grid utilization, gathers pricing information for parts, materials, equipment and labour allowances etc.
    • Review take-offs, checking for mathematical and technical accuracy.
  2. Operational Support
    • Lead the planning and preparation of mechanical estimates, tender submissions,
    • Assemble complete technical account proposals including setting the proposal language.
    • Support Proposal and Estimate detail justification analysis.
    • Can attend site walks and pre-bid meetings to build project requirements and advise on constructability of design.
    • Ability to identify risk, ambiguities and unique technical risk associated with projects; as well as recommend alternative solutions.
  3. Continuous Improvement
    • Utilize your research skills to work with and update historical data like purchase orders and analysis reports to help summarize reports for future estimates.
    • Makes necessary process improvements to optimize BGIS Direct M&E projects estimating, proposal creation and planning as the requirements/ needs of our client change.
Knowledge & Skills

Technical or bachelor diploma in HVAC or mechanical engineering and 5 to 8 years of relevant experience. Field Experience with HVAC/ Mechanical/Plumbing/Piping retrofit construction. A proven track record of successful interpretation of M&E drawings and contract documents. Very strong in MS Excel and other MS Office applications. Professional, approachable and customer-service oriented. People management experience. Strong client focus, proactive, and a desire to achieve results. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Comfortable managing many smaller project activities at the same time. Eagerness to learn how to understand and communicate advanced mechanical concepts. Excellent attention to quality, accuracy and details. Knowledge of Canadian geography. Experience & proficiency with estimating and scheduling software packages would be an asset. Excellent written and communication skills required.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Technical or bachelor diploma in HVAC or mechanical engineering.
