The Elementary Classroom Teacher is on the front lines of the school's mission. As a professional and Christ-centered educator, the teacher impacts the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of students. Through interaction with parents, the teacher also has the opportunity to minister to entire families.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum.
  • Act as a positive role model for students.
  • Plan and prepare throughout the year for effective instruction within the classroom, in collaboration with the other teachers in the Early Childhood or Elementary Department.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of curriculum and corresponding documentation for assigned classes, as consistent with changes in Virginia standards and Ecuadorian Ministry of Education requirements.
  • Individualize the content when necessary to meet each student's learning needs while maintaining the highest and most appropriate learning expectations for all students.
  • Effectively manage each group of students while providing for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational/linguistic backgrounds.
  • Employ technology as appropriate to enhance instruction and learning.
  • Continually and accurately assess and monitor student progress and make appropriate modifications of goals and strategies to meet students' needs, in collaboration with the Learning Support Teachers.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student progress, attendance, and classroom supplies and materials.
  • Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of deficiency or failure.
  • Interact cooperatively with other staff members in the development of cohesive curriculum materials and the establishment of instructional goals.
  • Mentor students during and after school hours by participating in extracurricular activities and discipleship activities. May include evenings and weekends on occasion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Early Childhood Education with teacher certification through ASCI or a U.S. certification program

  • The equivalent of an education degree/certificate in a non-US country.

Minimum job-related experience: Successful completion of a student-teaching practicum.
