The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has 12 site groups and 26 specialty clinics, and almost 3,000 staff who see over 400,000 patient visits every year. Its 800,000 square feet house 130 inpatient beds, 373,000 square feet of research space and 17 radiation treatment machines, making it one of the largest comprehensive cancer treatment facilities in the world and the largest radiation treatment centre in Canada.

The Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH) is an academic and service unit within the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS). Comprised of about seventy senior physicians, the program is supported by outstanding institutional infrastructure, pathology, medical imaging, molecular diagnostics and clinical genomics programs and, by a wide medical and allied-health multidisciplinary team. The program supports extensive clinical, translational, and basic research initiatives including a large clinical trials program. Additionally, DMOH supports a comprehensive training program attracting both national and international fellows. The division is organized into four main service areas – (i) Allogeneic Blood and Marrow Transplant, (ii) Leukemia, (iii) Lymphoma, Myeloma and Auto Blood and Marrow Transplant (LMT) and (iv) Solid Tumor - with daily ambulatory clinics and approximately 120 inpatient beds where an interdisciplinary team of physicians is dedicated to inpatient care.
The PA will have the opportunity to join the Leukemia Program to focus on improving and enhancing the access to care, the quality of care, and therapy related symptom management for patients undergoing systemic treatment. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and also at an ongoing basis, and will be expected to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in DMOH. There is also potential for involvement in many of the research clinical trials available onsite with the Leukemia Program.
participate in the day to day management of patients either on an inpatient or outpatient basis and assist in the management of side effects in close collaboration with staff physicians, oncology fellows, nurses and other support personnel.
collecting and interpreting data about the health of patients, symptom management, developing a medical diagnosis and management plan – in a team environment
quality improvement, research, and administrative responsibilities.
participate in policy or clinical pathway development as well as education and professional development.
interact with other team members including staff hematologists, fellows and residents, nurses, and other clinical and allied health staff both within the Program, DMOH and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills
Willingness to work with the DMOH team to develop appropriate medical directives and evolve the role to meet the patient/program needs
