Location Onsite :2330 Haldimand Road 3Nanticoke, OntarioN0A 1L0Your day-to-dayAssist facilities in implementing corporate/plant/division specific Safety & Industrial Hygiene initiativesCollaborate with stakeholders, including Division and Area managers, union H&S representatives, employees, and relevant departments, to organize hazard identification workshops to develop, review and update Risk Register for the area based on findings, changes in processes, or organizational developmentsAnalyze safety data/trends (internal & external) and assist in the development of corrective action plansCollaborate on a scheduled basis with division and area managers in appraising the performance of units, reviewing division and area incident experience, and collaborate on recommendations and action to be taken by the respective unit concerning Safety & Industrial Hygiene issuesAssist in the development of safety training modules and deliver select safety training as required.Conduct frequent reviews of established plant safety and industrial hygiene procedures to ensure ongoing effectiveness and complianceAssist in generating division specific information for monthly safety meetings. Audit random meetings for quality of information, presentation of instructor, and employee participation. Assist departments/divisions in implementing improvement plans for noted deficienciesAssist divisions in developing and implementing procedures including Safe Job Procedures, energy control procedures, Standard Practices and PPE requirements. Participate in Hazardous Job Meetings for tasks involving significant risksPeriodically conduct safety conversations with employees as well as line management to ensure the consistent use and quality of the safety conversation programConduct joint safety inspections and audits with Supervisors and bargaining unit Health & Safety (H&S) representatives. Utilize these inspections and audits to educate Supervisors and bargaining unit H&S representatives on hazard recognition and mitigation. Foster a collaborative environment where safety is a shared responsibility and knowledge is continuously exchanged.Conduct walk through of divisions observing conditions and work practices. Take immediate steps to modify unsafe practices and elicit required personnel to address housekeeping and unsafe conditions notedInteract with MOL Inspectors as required and follow up on issues arising from any visitsTake on-call responsibilities, typically one week per month, to respond promptly to any safety incidents or emergencies that occur outside of regular working hours and provide expert guidance and support to ensure swift and effective resolution of safety issues.Participate in the pre-startup safety review of new facilities, equipment or processes in conjunction with Engineering, Maintenance and Operating personnelParticipate in the development of plant specific safety and hygiene audit programsResearch industry best practices i.e. CSA, ASME, ANSI, ACGIH, NFPA, MOL Guidelines, etc.Order and receive safety-related supplies and services as requiredParticipate in the development and implementation of training programs for plant management and union personnelProvide assistance in communicating new systems initiatives or system-related changes for any Safety and IH systems in use at plant locations, and provide feedback on new initiatives or changes as neededParticipate in, recommend corrective actions and perform follow-ups for incident and injury investigationsWhat you bring to the table Job QualificationsDegree, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences or any closely related field1 year of experience in Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene in an Industrial environmentCRSP or equivalent safety designation would be an assetA valid G or G2 Ontario driver’s license and vehicle is mandatoryJob Skills and KnowledgeStrong analytical skills and attention to detailExtensive safety trainingStrong communication skills, both written and oralExcellent organizational and planning skillsSelf-motivated problem solverLeadership capabilitiesComputer skills, particularly MS OfficeAs an individual contributor, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to champion change and effective communication while contributing to team success.Your work environmentNormal, fast-paced office environment for a high impact teamA valid G or G2 Ontario driver’s license and vehicle is mandatoryThis is not a remote position – location is in Nanticoke, Ontario
