Position: Junior IoT Engineer Term: Full-time (30-40 hours/week), approximately 6 months starting in June 2024 Deadline: May 26, 2024Hourly Wage: $28-$36 We are looking for a curious and knowledgeable junior engineer who can use their creativity and problem–solving skills to help build precision agriculture tools. This position will primarily focus on our irrigation platform, which reduces water usage and allows for a high degree of irrigation monitoring and control, resulting in more profitable, climate-resilient farms. This is an IoT integrated system which will require work on both the hardware-side (for example irrigation controllers) and software-side (eg. IoT dashboards). This fully remote position requires working on varied tasks, alongside a small, motivated team, with a high level of autonomy. This will be a full-time, temporary position with the possibility of leading to a permanent role at the end of the 6-month period. This position requires independent work, with mentorship and support from senior engineers available as needed. Requirements● Must be living in B.C. and be eligible to work in B.C. While the role will mostly be remote, there could also be some field work such as installations that would require some local travel.● Working towards, or completed, a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineer, computer science or equivalent.● Interest in working on software and hardware, as this role bridges the gap between the physical and the digital realms. Desired Skills and Experience● Experience with all aspects of IoT ecosystems, including connectivity, data processing, security, scalability, and user experience.● Knowledge and experience on designing, developing, deploying, and managing a comprehensive data management platform.● Knowledge and experience with sensors and electronics. This includes protocols like SDI-12, Modbus, I2C, and analog and digital signals. This also includes wireless communications using 4G/LTE and LPWAN.● Knowledge and experience with building electronic systems like Arduino and Raspberry Pi. ● Proficiency in programming languages used for data management and visualization in IoT environments. Some of these include JavaScript, Python, and NodeJS.● Ability to build creative responsive dashboards that provide user interaction and data visualization. Proficiency in HTML and CSS are necessary. Knowledge of platforms like ThingsBoard would be extremely beneficial. Experience with native app building would also be an asset.● Familiarity with networking protocols such as MQTT, TCP/IP, UDP, and others that are used for device communication and data transfer. Experience with using and managing API’s.● Knowledge of databases like SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra), and InfluxDB for storing and retrieving timeseries data.● Experience with administering, managing, and operating within cloud platforms like AWS.● Knowledge of data analytics, including statistics, trend analysis, and anomaly detection.● Proficiency in using version control systems like Git and with implementing testing platforms and unit tests.● Ability to use basic hand tools and assemble components would be helpful.● Knowledge or experience with agricultural production, meteorology, hydrology, or other physical sciences would be considered an asset.
