Woodroom Supervisor

Catalyst Port Alberni has an immediate opening in its Operations team for a Woodroom Supervisor. Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Pulp Fibre, this role is accountable for monitoring the woodroom teams to safely maintain a constant flow of wood into the mill to create quality chips for the CTMP while keeping all equipment maintained and in good working order.

The Supervisor is also accountable for setting and meeting aggressive targets in safety, quality, production, uptime, efficiency and spending.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will have previous supervisory, planning and scheduling experience in an industrial, manufacturing environment.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to develop and train others.
• A good working knowledge of woodroom/sawmill/log handling processes, operating large industrial machinery, and working with computer spreadsheets will be considered definite assets.
• Ability to manage log species mixes to meet weekly operational targets while closely monitoring associated conversion costs.
• Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
• A demonstrated ability to lead change including driving improvements toward a safe work culture with a customer and quality focus
• Ability to work in a team environment; highly self-motivated
• Proven problem-solving and trouble-shooting abilities.
• Experience working with computer programs - Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Proficient with maintenance management systems, such as Avantis is an asset.
