The selected candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of Dougall Media’s broadcasting facilities and the delivery of high-quality audio and video content to audiences around Northwestern Ontario. Combining technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong attention to detail to support the complex and dynamic field of broadcast engineering.
Hardware-level troubleshooting and repair of broadcast equipment and infrastructure
RF installation and maintenance for television and FM radio transmission systems
Installation and maintenance of broadcast television and radio infrastructure
Installation and provisioning of broadcast IT networking infrastructure
File maintenance for broadcast television and radio playout systems
Structured cabling installation, testing, labeling and databasing
Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of broadcast systems, including cameras, microphones, video switchers, audio mixers, routers, servers, encoders, decoders, transmitters, and receivers.
Ability to comprehend signal flow within a broadcast facility, from acquisition through production to transmission.
Electrical Engineering: Knowledge of electrical principles and circuits, including power distribution, grounding, and protection systems. Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Understanding of digital audio and video processing techniques, including compression, encoding, and decoding.
Computer Networking: Familiarity with networking concepts such as TCP/IP, UDP, VLANs, routing, and switching, as well as experience with network equipment configuration and troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently, both in equipment and signal flow.
Maintenance and Repair: Proficiency in maintaining, repairing, and calibrating broadcast equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for collaborating with other team members, providing technical support, and conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Broadcast engineering often involves working as part of a team, collaborating with producers, directors, technicians, and other professionals to deliver high-quality broadcast content.
Class G Driver’s license.
