The Casual Early Childhood Educator provides daily programming, care and supervision to children ages 6 weeks to 6 years in the Regina Open Door Child Care Centre on an as-needed basis to fill in for staff vacation and other absences, within a team environment according to SK Early Learning and Child Care regulations and centre policies and procedures.
This individual must be professional, friendly, possess excellent communication skills and have knowledge of and experience with child-centered, play-based early childhood practices. Saskatchewan Early Childhood Education Certification- Level 1 is preferred
experience working in a Canadian daycare is preferred
Knowledge of/experience with Saskatchewan child care regulations and the Early Learning Program Guide ELPG

High Quality Early Childhood Programming: plans and implements developmentally appropriate, child-centred activities on a daily basis to meet the individual needs of children and support growth in all areas of development; social/emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical. Communicates Effectively with Parents: shares information regarding children's learning and development with parents and discusses issues and concerns in a professional manner
Contributes to Program Improvement/Enhancement: offers feedback and suggestions for program improvement or enhancement and assists with implementation as required
Outcome Measurement/Evaluation: evaluates and documents children's growth and progress in all aspects of development; social/emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual.
Collaboration: works cooperatively with other staff in a team setting to meet the needs of the program and children.
Child Engagement: interacts positively with children and participates in their exploration of the environment. Shows a genuine interest in children's growth and development

Contribute to the presentation of materials and room arrangement to provide a stimulating environment that supports all areas of child development
oversee children's daily routines of diapering/toileting, meals/feeding, dressing and provide assistance as needed
ensure proper supervision of children and ratio requirements at all times. This includes all aspects of "active supervision" as outlined by the Ministry of Education such as environment design, staff positioning, child engagement, activity planning, children's behaviour, head counts/transitions/excursions, and staff communications/interactions
communicate as needed with parents regarding children's learning and needs both orally and written
communicate with parents regarding policies and procedures of the centre as needed and direct to management when necessary
communicate effectively with coworkers regarding children and programming as well as to deal with issues and concerns
Must be physically able to perform all required duties of an educator for all age groups of children including active supervision of children within the centre and on excursions, daily cleaning and daily programming.

Hours of work for this position vary between the hours of 7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with an unpaid 30 minute break if working a minimum 5 hour shift. Hourly wage for this position ranges from $14.83 depending on SK Early Childhood Education certification level and years of experience. There may also be a Ministry of Education wage enhancement bringing the wage to a maximum of $27.93 per hour depending on certification level.
