Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Employment and Settlement Services, the Supervisor, Food Training Program is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the Employment Services Skill Building Programs, with a focus within the Culinary and Hospitality Industry. The Supervisor collaborates with staff, clients, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of services that meet the needs of our diverse community.

The Supervisor also supports and manages Dixon Hall’s Youth Incubator Better Food and The Next Step food programs and often works out of the Community Hub and Kitchen located in Regent Park. The Supervisor will lead our ongoing programs by extending partnership and supporting proposal development.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as our Supervisor, Food Training Program. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in planning, implementing and evaluating our programs with a focus within the Culinary and Hospitality industry. They will collaborate with staff, clients, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of services that meet the needs of our diverse community.

Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Management:
  • Design, develop, and implement community food programs, gardening projects, and nutrition education workshops.
  • Manage the program and provide supervision and support to the team.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of food programs, ensuring smooth service delivery in adherence to program objectives and budgetary constraints.
  • Coordinate program schedules and booking groups with stakeholders and clients and ensuring programs are programs run safely and efficiently.
  • Recruit, engage, and supervise participants for all food programs and ensure that the funder’s annual participant targets are met promptly and effectively.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to support various aspects of food program operations, including food sorting, meal preparation, distribution, and outreach activities.
Outreach and Community Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, partner organizations, local businesses, and government agencies to enhance collaboration and support for food programs.
  • Conduct outreach activities to promote program participation and engage with individuals and families, newcomers, and immigrants looking for career development and immediate employment.
  • Engage with employers in the food and hospitality sector to secure jobs for food training programs.
Client Management and Volunteer Coordination:
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive volunteer experience.
  • Guide program participants (clients) and follow up on their progress from recruitment to employment recruitment and employment progress.
Resource Mobilization:
  • Identify funding opportunities, support grant proposals and assist with fundraising efforts to secure financial resources for food programs.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors and sponsors, acknowledge their contributions and maintain regular communication to sustain support.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Establish program monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of food programs.
  • Collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and utilize feedback to inform program improvements and decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, social work, community development, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum three years of program coordination/supervisory experience working in community-based organizations, particularly in culinary training, food security, nutrition, and social services.
  • Strong supervisory, and project management skills, with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong self-motivation and accountability, committed to meeting deadlines and achieving goals autonomously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, training, and supervision of clients.
  • Knowledge of local food systems, social determinants of health, and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Excellent information and referral skills and knowledge of community services in Toronto.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management software.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a passion for social justice and community empowerment.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
