Overview

Smook Contractors Ltd. invites applications for a Civil / Geomatics Technologist role. This position offers a blend of field and office responsibilities, focusing on providing vital survey and technical support to our project teams. It’s an excellent opportunity for those who excel in precision, enjoy outdoor work, and possess strong technical skills in surveying and CAD software.

  • Participate in a variety of field surveys using RTK GPS survey equipment including preliminary topographic surveys, construction layout surveys, progress quantity surveys and as-built record surveys.
  • Setup and maintain survey control points for a project to ensure accuracy.
  • Conduct inventory surveys for the aggregate production section.
  • Assist in the preparation of digital terrain models for construction and quantity take-offs.
  • Set up GPS Machine Control equipment including the preparation of machine design files required for the project.
  • Review design drawings and specifications, survey records and other documents related to construction projects and assist site superintendent and supervisor with interpretation when required.
  • Assist with project designs and quantity take offs for estimating purposes.
  • Prepare CAD drawing as required.
  • Communicate data and records with outside owners or agencies when required.
  • Obtain necessary information including utility locates prior to commencement of construction projects.
  • Adherence to safety procedures.
  • Follow PPE requirements based on location, task, policies, procedures, and Safety Data Sheets
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Civil / Geomatics Technology graduate preferred.
  • Surveying experience using a variety of equipment including GPS.
  • Knowledge of Trimble Business Center and/or CAD based software.
  • Experience in MS Office and MS Project.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to problem solve, think critically, and make decisions.
Working Conditions

Perform work in all weather conditions. Some office work required. Work schedule to follow the company production schedule.
