The McConnell Brain Imaging Centre at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) - McGill University, is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to pushing the boundaries of brain research through advanced neuroimaging technologies.

Equipped with cutting-edge neuroimaging tools like high resolution PET, 7T MRI & MEG scanners, BIC facilitates interdisciplinary research, supports projects on neurological disorders, and plays a crucial role in training the next generation of scientists in the fields of neuroscience, neurology & neuropsychiatry.

In collaboration with the rest of The Neuro, the BIC contributes significantly to enhancing our understanding of the human brain.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

This is a full-time on-site role for a radiochemist (legal title: research technician(Bio-Med)), located at MNI, in downtown Montreal, QC.

The radiochemist will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Participate in the production and quality control of radioactive PET tracers (C11, F18 & other PET radioisotopes) for clinical research purposes , sometimes in the early morning hours or saturdays.

• Prepare the precursor ahead of the production. Perform technical tasks in the fields of preparative HPLC and synthesis modules.

• Participate in the operation and maintenance of the cyclotron .

• Organise and carry out laboratory projects and experiments within objectives set by the supervisor.

• Reviews, selects & modifies methodology and performs literature searches.

• Prepare stock solutions for HPLC.

• Provide technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment & accompanied technical material, to researchers using the PET facilities.

• Apply principles and applications of CNSC radiation safety regulations, & Health Canada GLP/GMP regulations.

• Compiles & maintains experimental and analytical data as well as assures that backups are routinely made.

• Analyzes & discusses results & their interpretation with the director & other lab members.

• Participate in devising new experimental methodology & help optimize new procedures.

• Ensure cleanliness & safety of the work area, proper storage, handling, & disposal of organic, biological & radioactive materials. That includes cleanroom cleaning and environmental monitoring.

• Understand the procedures and requirements of each new study.

• Use & maintain equipment, & assures proper working procedures & cleanliness in use by others in the lab.

• Maintain chemical and equipment inventories, ensure compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required; Master's degree is an asset.

• Proficient in chromatography techniques, particularly in flash and HPLC.

• Demonstrated expertise in organic chemistry mechanisms and proficiency in designing and executing organic synthesis .

• Familiarity with radiochemistry is an asset.

• Willingness & eagerness to learn radiochemistry, clinical medicinal synthesis & cyclotron operation.

Strong attention to detail & precision in all activities.

• Knowledge of safety regulations in laboratory practices

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS :

• Applicants must be able to work legally in Canada (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or work permit holders)

OTHER INFORMATION:

• Job Type : Full-time (35h per week)

Salary : Starting from $33-34 per hour

• As an employee of McGill University, this is a unionised position (MUNACA) with full benefits .

Schedule :

• Monday to Friday (sometimes early morning hours)

• Occasional Saturdays as needed
