Aecon-EBC Ladore General Partnership is in a partnership consisting of Aecon and EBC to deliver the Ladore Spillway Seismic Upgrade located in Campbell River, British Columbia. BC Hydro awarded the contract to Aecon-EBC. The goal of the project is to provide safe and reliable power to the communicates of Vancouver Island while managing the flood risk. Some of the work includes replacing three new spillway gates, a new hoist tower, and deck structure. We are currently looking for an Engineering Co-op Student to join our Ladore project in Campbell River, British Columbia for 8 months come September 2024. This position will provide an opportunity to take an active involvement in an exciting heavy civil project. This is a site-based position and will include exposure to the day-to-day management of project construction, resource allocation, scheduling, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct site audits and analysis, provide daily/weekly/monthly reports to the project staff and key stakeholders.
  2. Assist Field Engineers and Superintendents with day-to-day tasks.
  3. Perform quantity tracking and productivity analysis for maximization of operation efficiency.
  4. Perform quantity take-off from construction drawings as required.
  5. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to review the quality of completed work.
  6. Liaise with and inform the project staff or any other Aecon delegate on the project schedule.
  7. Monitor progress and assist in the provision of job cost reports to management on active projects.
  8. Provide data and input for month-end reconciliation.
  9. Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
  10. Provide technical support to field staff, craft, and subcontractors.
  11. Assist in the preparation, review, maintenance, and approval of Engineering drawings and related documents.
  12. Gather field information and assist in the preparation of project bill of materials.
  13. Assist in the preparation of detailed construction and design estimates.
  14. Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal departments.
  15. Other administrative duties as required.

Must be self-motivated and work well with minimum or no direct supervision.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Currently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Experience in the construction industry is a strong asset. Beginner knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, building materials, and required standards applicable to the project. A valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word). Beginner knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam is an asset. Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. A strong work ethic – highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right. Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. Adaptable to flexible work schedules (day and night shifts) when required to meet deadlines. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. The expected pay range for this position is $23.00-$25.00 per hour.
