Working mostly independently under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director, Information & Instructional Technologies has overall responsibility for developing and leading the technology strategy planning efforts for the Technology Services unit and ensuring that IT programs and initiatives align to the John H. The incumbent leads the IT team; manages IT annual capital budgets; defines metrics based on overall Faculty objectives, and ensures the integrity, reliability, security, and performance of information systems.


The Director plans, implements, and sustains a comprehensive information and technology environment. The incumbent provides creative leadership and strategic direction, design, development, and management in the area of technology services, including instructional design, help desk, information technology, web, classroom media, and audiovisual services for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of short-term and long-term technology strategies across all the technology services in the portfolio, management of Faculty administrative information systems and of the Faculty's use of University administrative information systems, and full management of related staff and resources.


The incumbent directs the development and execution of an information security plan that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the Faculty's data and servers; establishes IT departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures; and adjusts IT standards and technologies to meet a changing technological landscape. The Director advises on the appropriate response to external factors affecting all technology services within the Faculty and is the Faculty's administrative computing representative for University-wide committees and forums.


The Director fully understands and appreciates the Faculty's academic and research programs, the participation of students in the Faculty's programs, as well as the administration of the Faculty's business functions. The Director interfaces with visitors and the public, and consults with faculty, senior management, and other individuals regularly to understand the Faculty's needs and the available University resources.


The Director values, embodies, promotes, and instills in their team a service-oriented approach, with a focus on continual improvement and innovation, to position the Faculty to be able to leverage existing IT services and seize emerging opportunities. and has the ability to promote and deliver quality service to faculty, staff, and students.


University degree in computer science, or the equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience; Seven or more years of progressive responsibility working in the field of information systems and technology, with demonstrated technical knowledge/skills in a wide range of client/server environments, internet/intranet technologies, and data and internet security, preferably in a University environment. Experience in policy formulation, project management, network systems, web-enabled database systems, management of daily operations, end user support, disaster recovery, and staff IT training. Knowledge of academic environment and policies and procedures related to IT management, privacy legislation, and confidentiality. Minimum of five years of management experience in a unionized environment.


Sound knowledge of a variety of software and hardware including AMS/SAP, standard operating systems, Microsoft 365 products, SMS, IIS servers. Must understand network integration and software development lifecycle. Experience administering a Windows-based enterprise network environment is required. Thorough understanding of data exchange and database management in a multi-database environment is required. Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills; and able to lead a technical team with strong supervisory skills.
