It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve. The City of Merritt has a full-time opportunity for a Clerk Typist with the Planning and Development Services team. This team is dedicated to helping our customers - the public, developers, contractors, and building professionals – with applications for business permits, building and safety inspections, demolition permits, plumbing permits, sign permits, rezoning, strata conversions, and subdivision applications. In this role, you are a key point of contact for the department, and therefore, you have an immediate, distinct effect on relationships with internal and external customers. With your keen attention to detail and motivated approach, you provide helpful and friendly customer service to assist customers, answer questions, investigate and resolve or escalate inquiries and complaints. As a Clerk Typist, you contribute to a positive team environment and coordinate with the team to assist with operational initiatives, prepare land title documentation and registration, conduct data entry, document management, filing, and other related duties, to support the department’s success.
~1-3 years experience in similar roles supporting a busy office department, creating land title documentation and registration, and providing professional customer service. Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
~ Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
~ Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen, influence, motivate, provide feedback, and resolve complaints.
~ Resilience and the ability to react to situations in the moment and stay aware of changing priorities as they arise.
~ A valid Driver's License and satisfactory, safe driving history.
