Summary:

We are looking for a driven Controller to join our Finance & Accounting team at the Akash Homes Head Office in Edmonton, Alberta.

At Akash Homes, we're experiencing exciting growth. Our Accounting & Finance Team plays a crucial role in ensuring this growth is steady and sustainable. They prioritize relationships with our vendors, strategic partners and internal teams to ensure seamless collaboration, transparent communication, and mutual success. This team also focuses on operational excellence, optimizing systems, and building the forecasting models necessary for future business decisions.

What you’ll work on:

Department Optimization:

Work closely with the CFO to spearhead the transformation of finance and accounting operations in alignment with our company's rapid growth trajectory.

Play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our department, driving efficiency and effectiveness through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions.

Mentor and lead team members and help to grow the Accounting & Finance team to support organizational needs.

Lead the development of dynamic reporting tools that empower leadership with actionable insights, driving informed decision-making 

Champion and lead the integration of various systems (ex: ERP) to elevate our operational efficiency and strategic capabilities. 

Implement robust internal controls and verification processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial information. 

Oversee monthly reconciliations and manage supporting working papers for thoroughness and precision. 

Utilize expertise in full-cycle accounting (ASPE) to maintain financial integrity. 

Collaborate closely with leadership to review reporting, cash flow projections, and provide strategic recommendations. 

Partner with operations team on cost-to-complete verification, fostering collaboration for streamlined processes. 

Manage purchase order process, establishing clear procedures for efficient payment processing. 

Provide support in cost accounting, budgeting, and ongoing master model management. 

Stay informed of financial practices, trends, and regulatory changes to adapt strategies accordingly. 

Maintain chart of accounts and internal control systems for compliance and transparency. 

Support external accountants and year-end review engagements. 

Ensure compliance with income tax and regulatory rules, including GST. 

 

What you’ll bring:

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation; required.

4+ years big firm experience, combined with 5+ years industry experience (high volume A/P environments are a plus).

Proficiency in accounting software, especially QuickBooks and Sage combined with excellent knowledge of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
