Trades for Tomorrow is a Group Sponsor program managed by the Merit OpenShop Contractors Association of Ontario and funded by the Government of Ontario. Our goal is to help apprentices complete their training, pass their Certificate of Qualification examinations (where applicable) and become fully licensed Journeypersons.

We are looking to place apprentices in the Hoisting Engineer — Mobile Crane Operator 1 (339A) trade in open positions across the province. Candidates must be driven, focused, and prepared to follow instructions given by their assigned Journeyperson.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship training program and passing the Certificate of Qualification exam, a Hoisting Engineer — Mobile Crane Operator 1 maintains and operates conventional lattice and telescopic boom mobile cranes that can lift, move, position and place materials and equipment weighing more than 16,000 pounds, such as concrete, steel, gravel and other construction supplies and machinery at construction and industrial sites, ports, factories, warehouses, dockyards or rail yards. Specifically, a Hoisting Engineer — Mobile Crane Operator 1:

  • performs pre‐operational inspections
  • prepares and transports cranes
  • assembles and dismantles cranes
  • plans crane ‘lifts’ including calculating crane capacity and determining load weights
  • sets up, positions and stabilizes the crane before the ‘lift’
  • performs various rigging procedures

A Hoisting Engineer — Mobile Crane Operator 1 is one of Canada’s Red Seal Trades.

Education:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • College Diploma (not required, but an asset)
  • Completion of a pre-apprenticeship program (not required but an asset)

Required Certification/Licenses:

  • WHMIS
  • Working at Heights
  • Valid G class driver’s license with a clean record

Additional requirements:

  • Own vehicle (not required but an asset)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Schedule:

  • Flexible
  • May require shift work and/or weekends
  • May require overtime

Location:

  • Positions available across Ontario
  • Ability/willingness to relocate is an asset

Remote Work:

  • No
