Enterprise Data Architect

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work Type: Full-time

LeverageTek is actively seeking an Enterprise Data Architect for a 9-month contract with its Ottawa-based customer.

Work Location

The successful candidate will work primarily remotely for the duration of the contract, with the need to be onsite 1-3x/month (or as required) at the customer location in Ottawa

Key Tasks

  • Review existing data inventory
  • Complete an environmental scan of our current data architecture
  • Map out existing data architecture, documenting the current state
  • Identify and apply a data architecture framework that is the right fit
  • Incorporate data governance into new and existing procedures
  • Support existing project plans and initiatives that develop the Data Governance Framework
  • Help develop governance frameworks for managing data across the enterprise
  • Help develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for data architecture and management in conjunction with data consumers, people leaders and other key stakeholders
  • Help interpret and deliver impacted strategic plans improving data integration, data quality and data delivery in support of business initiatives and roadmaps
  • Create short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and overall data management roadmap
  • Design the structure and layout of data systems, including databases, warehouses and lakes
  • Support the selection and implementation of appropriate tools, software, applications and systems to support data technology goals
  • Translate high level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data and data quality standards
  • Establish processes for governing the identification, collection and use of corporate metadata
  • Define standards, guidelines and procedures for tracking data quality issues and improvements
  • Conduct data capacity planning and documents usage requirements
  • Collaborate with IM/IT teams, business analysts, project managers, business unit leaders and data analytics teams to understand business needs and develop solutions
  • Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance
  • Transfer knowledge to the IM/IT team

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience as Enterprise Data Architect leading and supporting enterprise data architecture projects
  • Experience designing end-to-end data ecosystems for medium to large scale organizations and able to scale it to fit
  • Proven track record in migration of legacy systems to modern architectures

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering or a related field
  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs and client culture
  • Ability to collaborate and excel in complex, cross-functional teams involving development engineers, business analysts, product owners, strategic advisors and executive stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one major cloud platform (Microsoft or Google)
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one major cloud database service (Snowflake, Azure Synapse, BigQuery)
  • Familiarity with hybrid and multi-cloud data architecture strategies
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as PowerBI
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio
  • Understanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques
  • Experience in data pipeline design (Azure Data Factory etc.)
  • Familiarity with API integrations and microservices
  • Understanding of AI/ML infrastructure needs and integration into data architecture
  • Strong understanding of database architecture principles (normalized vs denormalized structures, data warehousing etc.)

Assets

  • DAMA CDMP and/or other relevant certifications
  • Familiarity with metadata management and governance tools such as Purview
  • Proficient in designing scalable optimized data models such as Online Analytical Processing (OLAP)
  • Advanced skills in relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL etc.)
  • Experience in distributed systems (Hadoop, HDFS, Apache Cassandra etc.)
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases (MpongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB etc.).
