We are currently seeking a Finance Manager to work in our Hamilton or Toronto office.Summary of Position This is a full-time position working as a manager of the firm’s finance & accounting team. The successful candidate will report to the firm’s COO and work closely with the current Finance Manager and share the full set of responsibilities for the firm’s finance and accounting operationsKey Responsibilities· Year End: working papers, schedules and reconciliations prepared for firm auditors based on strict deadlines for financial statements and partner tax slips.· Year End: working papers & questionnaire for annual US Tax Return· Month End: Balance Sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial packages, and other month end check list items and reporting based on strict deadlines.· On-line banking: daily control, on-line payment uploads, review and approvals· Accounts Payable: enter expense reimbursement claims; disbursements; and other operational expenses· Tax: HST returns monthly and quarterly preparation and reconciliations · Litigation Levy Surcharge: quarterly return preparation and filing.· Liability insurance: annual exemption reporting; maintain list of active lawyers for renewal; request certificates· Interest on capital: calculations and maintenance.· Capital Equalization: reconciliations, maintenance, and analysis.· Points Package: annual preparation for review· Budgeting: annual revenue budget and departmental cost budgets preparations · New Clients: perform corporate searches and generate profile reports, upon request· AdHoc requests: Partners’ and Management reports; letters for banking access, loans and updating signatories; financial information for annual LSO filing; · Liaise with software support department for database updates; executables and other documentation· Identify process improvement opportunities and work with the team and other firm members to implement process improvement · Successful candidate must learn processes of the accounting team members to ensure continuity of functions and work of business operations. Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field · Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial capacity with at least 3 years in a law firm· Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and practices· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines· Experience with law firm financial management software (knowledge and proficiency in Acumin would be a great asset)· A resourceful self-starter, with a proven ability to work independently· Strong sense of task ownership and attention to detail· Proficient understanding of MS Office including Excel· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills· Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize and multitaskAccommodations are available on request for applicants taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
