Project Accounting Manager

Project Accounting Manager, North AmericaB+H Architects is seeking an experienced, hands-on Project Accounting Manager. You will serve as a Finance Business Partner supporting the Firm’s project operations including all aspects of project financial performance, accounting, reporting and analysis, working capital management, and providing leadership of a team of Project Accountants and implementing best practice.Reporting to the Global Controller, the Project Accounting Manager will lead the Project Accounting team and work closely with our directors of practice with the mindset of collaboration and continuous improvement of our processes. While based in Toronto, you will also have the opportunity to support and collaborate with other studios across Canada and with partners across the globe. A person who enjoys the opportunity to resolve puzzles and work with others to do so as well?As a Manager, Project Accounting you will be responsible for:Manage all aspects of project accounting, including project set up, revenue recognition, billings and AR collections. Accurate and timely entry of project budgets, based on project contracts, additional services, etc. (close outs, opening, set up)Supports project leaders to address changes in project scope or timeline and resolve any financial issues that might impede project timelines.Provide financial analysis for project managers and principals, tracks and analyzes consolidated financial results for all projects.Present financial performance reports, and ad-hoc reports as required.Work closely with Project Managers and Principals to prepare monthly revenue forecasts and collection forecasts.Understand the projects, opportunities and risks associated with it from a financial perspective, provisions, tease out revenue recognition if possible, and make decisions based on this.Oversee monthly project status reports prior to project reviews.Oversee and review monthly project variance reports and make recommendations to Project Managers and Principals on how to improve performance, if necessary.Manage overall working capital including timesheets, billing and collections.Manage a team of four project accountants.Oversee the subconsultant payable management, invoice coding and review against project budgets and contracts and process weekly Pay when Paid reports.Assist with the ongoing development, improvement, and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and processes.Work closely with Director of Practice for continuous improvement on project management process.Support with internal and external audits, and lead the audit function for project accounting.The successful candidate will possess:Be legally entitled to work in Canada - holding Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Resident status or a valid work permit.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.7+ years proven experience in project accounting with 1-3 years of supervisory experience, with a focus on financial reporting and compliance; experience in Architectural, Interior Design, Engineering industry is strongly preferred.Adept in Accounting software (SAP S4Hana and BST preferred) and Advanced Excel skills.Detail-oriented with a strong analytical mindset, strong problem-solving skills and able to function independently.A proven leader with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.A self-starter with demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and deadlines.Understands revenue recognition in project accounting under the IFRS.OTHER DUTIESPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for the job.
