Reporting to the Construction Safety Manager, this role is to promote and supervise site safety through investigations, site inspections, to provide direction and support for all supervisors regarding their responsibilities for maintaining safety discipline, ensure all workplace parties fulfill their responsibilities for the EHS program, have good working knowledge of WSIB policies and participate and support “pre planning” stages of projects, assist in the management of worker’s compensation claims.Key Responsibilities include: Risk Assessment and Management: Conducting comprehensive risk assessments of construction sites to identify potential hazards and implementing measures to mitigate risks to ensure the safety of workers and visitors.Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all construction activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by local authorities and regulatory bodies.Training and Education: Providing training sessions and educational materials to construction workers and site managers on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses on construction sites, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also ensure that all incidents are accurately documented and reported as per regulatory requirements.Safety Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits of construction sites to assess compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.Safety Planning and Implementation: Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive health and safety plans for construction projects. They oversee the implementation of these plans, monitor progress, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure ongoing safety throughout the project lifecycle.Desired Requirements:3-5 years of experience working in a construction Health and Safety position. A valid G-class driver's license is a must.Experience working on rail construction projects is an asset. Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, and legislation. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organizationAbility to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer care.Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Familiar with construction terminology. EducationDiploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field. Completed or working towards a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset. We are an Equal Employer.
