Company OverviewThe Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the unique interests of independent and franchised grocers through a progressive partnership with retailers, their suppliers and the consumer across Canada. From modest beginnings in 1962, CFIG has grown to the point where it boasts a substantial national membership from which seventeen Directors are elected to govern its affairs. CFIG is recognized as an effective advocate to industry and government as well as a key resource for information and educational services for its membership. CFIG offers strong programs designed for commercialization, collaboration, and best practices for members.CFIG also owns and operates the Canadian food industry’s two largest trade shows and conferences – Grocery Innovations Canada (held in the fall in Toronto) and Grocery and Specialty Food West (held in the spring in Vancouver).Job DescriptionThe policy manual of The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers which has been adopted by the Board of Directors defines the position of the President and CEO as follows:“The President is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Corporation and has responsibility for the management of the Corporation within the policies established by the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. The President is the only employee of the Board and is responsible to the Executive Committee as a whole. There is a clear separation between policy and management at CFIG”. ResponsibilitiesTo clarify specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:· Maintenance of strategic direction· Short and long term financial viability· Integrity of policy direction and financial systems· Management of the affairs of CFIG· Recruitment, Supervision and retention of required staff· Advocacy and profile of the independent grocer to the trade and all levels of government. Development and implementation of frameworks necessary for good board relations and the fostering ofgood Board experiencesQualifications· Has a strong knowledge of the Canadian food industry· Ability to develop multi-level organizational partnerships· Has strong communication and presentation skills· Senior Management - Canadian Food Experience 20+ years· Is bilingual (an asset)· Has working knowledge of various levels of Government (an asset)· Strong experience with event management. Knowledge of Non profit organizations and prior management (an asset)· Experience in management of Profit and Loss statement. Experience in running board meeting (an asset)The President & CEO will be an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills who is equally comfortable dealing respectfully with a small retailer or with the CEO of a major corporation. The Successful candidate will have a keen business acumen and be unafraid to “get his or her hands dirty” in the execution of the elements of the role. Above all the President and CEO will be a self-motivated high achiever with a clear vision, demonstrated creativity and a modest flair for entrepreneurship.
