Job Description - Allergist Immunologist

The Allergist Immunologist will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of allergic and immune system disorders. These include, but are not limited to, food allergies, asthma, hay fever, eczema, autoimmune diseases, and immunodeficiencies. The role involves both direct patient care and oversight of treatment plans, including Immunotherapy.

Location: Edmonton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
  • Diagnose and treat patients with allergies, asthma, and immune system disorders on a daily basis.
  • Manage immunotherapy treatment cycles, including diagnosis, ongoing care, and building immunity over time (typically every month or two).
  • Evaluate patient conditions and determine appropriate treatments or refer to specialists as necessary.
  • Administer treatment plans and ensure patients follow the prescribed course of action.
  • Oversee the care provided by nursing staff and other clinical support personnel.
  • Patient Volume:
  • Ideally, see 20-30+ patients per day depending on patient load and clinic demand.
  • Collaborative Care:
  • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, including specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Clinical Independence:
  • Initially, this position will be as an independent contractor. You will have flexibility in staffing, including determining the need for nursing support (e.g., up to two nurses or more, based on clinic needs).

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education:

  • Medical Degree (MD or equivalent)
  • Specialization in Pediatrics (MDA in Pediatrics)
  • Completed Immunology degree and training
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-10 years of experience in Allergy and Immunology, with preference given to more senior candidates with Allergy Immunology clinical experience in a similar setting.
  • Proven experience in treating high volumes of patients in a clinical setting.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and provide high-quality care under pressure.
  • Experience with immunotherapy treatments and allergy diagnostics is a plus.
