Job Description

The Office of the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel is currently looking to staff one position of Legal Counsel at the HLP-01 or HLP-02 group and levels on an indeterminate basis, and to establish pools of qualified candidates for the Legal Counsel positions at the HLP-01 and HLP-02 group and levels.

Under the direction of a Senior Counsel and Team Leader, Legal Services, the Legal Counsel provides comprehensive and expert legal advice and services to Members of Parliament and officials of the House of Commons in a professional, non-partisan, confidential and timely manner, on complex issues related to constitutional law, parliamentary law, administrative law, contracts and procurement, privacy law, and employment law among others.

Qualifications

Education :

  • Law degree from a recognized university;
  • Membership in good standing with the Bar of a Canadian province or territory.

Experience :

  • Experience in providing expert legal advice on public law issues;
  • Experience in providing strategic and timely legal advice (both orally and in writing) in respect of complex legal issues.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of contract law and procurement law;
  • Knowledge of employment law;
  • Knowledge of parliamentary law.
