About the positionThe Provincial Coordinator, Advocacy collaborates with the Manager, Advocacy & Lived Experience to advance the organization’s mission. Together, they advocate on key issues that matter to people affected by dementia.The Provincial Coordinator, Advocacy drives this work by coordinating strategies, building relationships with key interest holders, including all levels of government, and by proactively identifying and responding to emerging policy developments to help shape and inform the organization’s priorities. This role also works closely with the Program Coordinator, Advocacy to engage and support grassroots advocates.This role reports to the Manager, Advocacy & Lived Experience.Title: Provincial Coordinator, Advocacy Salary range (level 8): $62,200 to $75,000 per year Contract: Permanent Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week Location: Vancouver - HybridKey ResponsibilitiesCoordinating provincial advocacy initiatives to advance organizational priorities and influence policy at all levels of government.Working closely with the Marketing and Communications department to develop and execute advocacy campaigns, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and provincial needs.Working closely with the Program Coordinator, Advocacy, to hold advocacy events, such as the Society’s Legislature Luncheon, and to ensure the participation of MLAs at events such as the Walk for Alzheimer’s.Building and maintaining relationships with key interest holders, including government officials, health authorities, community organizations, and grassroots advocates.Working alongside people with lived experience (e.g., the Advocacy Advisory group) to consult on and communicate the Society’s advocacy messaging.Tracking legislative, regulatory, and policy developments relevant to our advocacy work and identifying emerging provincial, national and international policy issues and legislative changes related to dementia.Preparing presentations, briefing notes, position statements and recommendations for leadership and external audiences, and working with the Manager, Advocacy & Lived Experience to prepare internal communications highlighting events, emerging trends and legislative changes.Working with the Manager, Advocacy & Lived Experience to advocate our policy positions in different forums and across different interest groups – including with elected and non-elected government representatives, non-profits, industry associations and related groups.Working closely with the Program Coordinator, Advocacy, to support and engage grassroots advocates across the province and to ensure they have the tools, training, and resources to participate in advocacy activities.Representing the organization at forums, consultations, and public events.Monitoring and reporting on advocacy outcomes, impact metrics and progress toward strategic objectives.Other duties as required to meet the needs of the role in relation to departmental goals.About You You have a graduate degree in a related post-secondary field (public policy, government relations, political science, public health, gerontology, or equivalent) and a strong knowledge of British Columbia’s health care system and provincial government. You are highly motivated to take initiative, bring strong advocacy and research skills, and are very confident communicating your ideas – both verbally and in writing. You have a proven track record building effective relationships with colleagues and partners at all levels, both inside and outside the organization. You thrive on collaboration, understand the complexities of health and social policy, and are passionate about creating meaningful change for people affected by dementia. Key Qualifications3 to 5 years’ related experience in advocacy.Strong ability to analyze and synthesize complex information into clear, actionable reports and briefing notes, and recommendations.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging and precise presentations, policy materials and correspondence for a variety of audiences.Proven experience in policy and legislative analysis, including identifying emerging trends and assessing their potential impact on organizational priorities.Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and interest holders across departments and sectors including government, health authorities and community partners.Understanding of government processes at federal and provincial levels, including policy development, budget planning and public consultations.Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail.Background in issue monitoring, research, and information gathering, with knowledge of dementia-related issues considered an asset.Technical competenciesProficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Raiser’s Edge/NXT and online survey tools is an asset.About Us As a member of the team, you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits, including:Flexible work options, including flex days and hybrid arrangements.4 weeks vacation to start, 12 sick days, 2 personal days as part of a 35-hour work week.13 paid holidays, with an option to switch days for a personal cultural preference.Full health and dental benefits, including a Health Care Spending Account, group RRSP and Employee Assistance Program for you and your dependents.Support for career growth and development.To ApplyIf this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
