About Us:

BuildingIN is a transformative approach to urban planning initiatives dedicated to solving the housing crisis across Canada by enabling municipalities to meet their housing goals through multi-unit low-rise infill development. Our Program work leverages housing development industry knowledge to provide housing market response forecasting for infill. You will play a key role in collaborating with municipalities to design and implement actionable, scalable solutions that align with the vision of BuildingIN.


Role Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled motivated Intermediate to Senior level Urban Planner to join our dynamic team. Your role will be to lead municipal planning projects, particularly focusing on housing and sustainable growth strategies. Your expertise will guide municipalities in optimizing land use, navigating zoning challenges, and fostering community engagement. You will also mentor junior planners and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver comprehensive planning solutions.


Key Responsibilities (BuildingIN):

·        Lead and manage urban planning projects focused on low-rise multi-unit infill housing and land use optimization in municipalities across Canada

·        Collaborate with municipal leaders, developers, and key community members to assess and implement effective land use strategies.

·        Provide expertise in zoning, infrastructure, and sustainable urban design to ensure alignment with local needs and growth projections.

·        Develop comprehensive planning documents, reports, and presentations for municipal clients and team members.

·        Oversee and guide junior planners, offering mentorship and support in the execution of planning tasks.

·        Research urban development trends, housing policies, and planning best practices to inform strategies and recommendations.

·        Work closely with the Project Manager to manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within scope.

·        Contribute to the development of strategic plans to expand BuildignIN’s impact on a national scale.


Other Responsibilities

·        Approvals applications and planning rationales for development projects.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 – 10 years of experience in urban planning, with a focus on land use, zoning, and housing development.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal planning processes, land use regulations, and sustainable development practices.
  • Experience working directly with municipalities, key community members, and government agencies.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex planning concepts.
  • Knowledge of GIS, urban design, and housing policy is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and basic AutoCAD.
  • Experience in social media management (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, with strong organizational skills.
  • Bonus: GIS knowledge, video editing skills, proficiency in French.
