Senior Air Emissions Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Air Emissions Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in helping our emissions management clients develop and manage their air emissions inventories while identifying key opportunities for emissions reduction. You will be expected to advise our clients on emissions management strategies, ensuring compliance and "going beyond compliance" to advise on emissions mitigation and provide engineering support as needed. You will work with Process Ecology's software applications, providing input to improving the applications and our work processes. You will also provide senior guidance to more junior and intermediate members of the team. This includes day-to-day support and guidance, as well as directing the activities of team members. This is an exciting opportunity to work on impactful projects that go beyond compliance and contribute to sustainable practices in the oil and gas sector.
What to Expect
- Salary range: $90,000-$125,000, depending on experience.
- Position is available effective immediately
- We offer exciting work in a friendly collaborative environment.
- We are an organization that is at the forefront of air emissions management, reporting and reduction.
- We offer flexible hours and a hybrid work environment.
- We are committed to providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive workspace.
- You will be part of and have an opportunity to learn from a team of world-class experts solving challenging problems.
- We value transparent communication, teamwork, and a hands-on approach.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee and manage air emissions reporting campaigns for various regulatory programs, such as NPRI, GHG, Methane, Benzene, and TIER. Ensure the accurate and timely submission of regulatory reports to the appropriate authorities.
- Provide clients with high-level advice, audit support, and responses to detailed inquiries related to emissions management.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive facility and equipment inventories, working closely with client environmental personnel to manage data collection and review field data for accuracy.
- Organize and categorize emissions data within Process Ecology's document management systems ensuring the data is accessible and useful to the team.
- Prepare and review regulatory reports to ensure their accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. This includes drafting reports for review, incorporating feedback, and addressing any flagged issues during the review process to ensure the final reports are accurate before they are shared with clients or submitted to regulatory authorities. You will conduct detailed reviews of emissions quantification to ensure it aligns with reporting requirements and supports emissions reduction strategies. Additionally, you will lead the review and approval of reports from team members, ensuring their quality and regulatory compliance prior to distribution.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the emissions reporting processes and tools, implementing automation or optimization strategies to enhance efficiency, data accuracy, and report generation efficiency.
- Provide expert process simulation and engineering support, helping evaluate emissions mitigation options and optimizing air emissions control strategies. You will also conduct senior engineering reviews as needed and serve as the engineer signatory (P.Eng.) on specific reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and technical accuracy.
- Collaboration will be central to this role, as you will work closely with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure alignment on emissions reporting requirements and procedures. Clear and proactive communication will be essential as you guide stakeholders, address inquiries, and facilitate the regulatory compliance process, ensuring smooth and effective outcomes across all parties involved.
The Candidate
Individuals with the following traits, skills and experiences should apply:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in chemical engineering, environmental engineering or related fields. An advanced degree may be an asset.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, air emissions management, or related fields. Process engineering may qualify as relevant experience in some cases (e.g., engineering experience in oil & gas industry), but several years of direct air emissions management experience is an expectation.
- Requires familiarity with the federal and provincial air emissions reporting frameworks such as NPRI, GHG, carbon pricing systems (such as AB TIER, BC OBPS, SK OBPS) and Methane regulations. Additional training or certifications in air emissions management, environmental regulations, or related areas is expected.
- In-depth knowledge of emissions reporting protocols, methodologies, and calculation methods to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
- Expertise with data management techniques, such as importing, entering, and validating data using specialized software platforms like Process Ecology's Emissions Advisor. Also need to thoroughly understand data management capabilities of Excel to avoid unnecessary manual manipulation of data.
- Proven ability to oversee and manage air emissions reporting campaigns, ensuring adherence to regulatory deadlines and requirements, and submitting reports to relevant regulatory authorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of best practices for corporate emissions reporting and assurance processes to maintain consistency and accuracy in emissions reporting.
- Proven experience using analytical skills to review and interpret emissions data, identifying trends and ensuring accuracy in reporting.
- Ability to provide process simulation and engineering support to evaluate emissions mitigation options and optimize air emissions control strategies.
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in engineering software and tools, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential.
- Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are crucial.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development is important for success in this role.
In return, you can expect:
- An opportunity to work with senior leadership
- Opportunity to work on more diverse tasks within Process Ecology
- Success in this role may lead to future opportunities at Process Ecology
