Apprentice Editor

Real World Films Inc. is a Vancouver based Indigenous documentary production company focused on the creation of Indigenous inspired docs and series. Our most recent docuseries Northern Air Rescue is currently airing on APTN (season 2 in production).

Position Summary

RealWorld is seeking an Apprentice Editor (Editor Trainee) for our ongoing documentary series. This is a full-time, temporary position expected to last 3-6 months. As an Apprentice Editor, you will gain hands-on experience by working closely with our experienced postproduction team. You will receive mentorship and job shadowing opportunities with the goal of developing the skills needed to transition into a role as an offline editor.

Key Responsibilities

• Screen and log location footage
• Organize and prepare footage for assembly edits
• Trim and assemble footage into coherent sequences that align with the series narrative
• Collaborate with the director to understand the vision for the series based on shooting scripts.
• Participate in story meetings with the postproduction team and refine edits as required

Qualifications and Skills

• Lived experience or deep knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and governance
• Strong interest in documentary filmmaking and editing
• 1+ year of video editing experience (preferred, but not required)
• Post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or certificate) in Film Studies, Media Arts, or a related field
• Familiarity with Avid Media Composer, or other editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Additional Information

• Pay: $27.05 per hour
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day
• Expected Start Date: ASAP
• Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
