Job Summary

The MHCB Summer Student reports to the MHCB Program Manager or designated MHCB Full Time Success Coaches to provide addiction and mental health promotion and prevention to children, youth, and families. The MHCB Summer Student works alongside MHCB Staff to provide Tier 1 universal programming.

Working as part of a larger team, this position may involve developing and delivering developmentally appropriate, evidence-based summer programming, activities and events that meet the objectives of the AHS MHCB initiative. Delivery of programming involves large and small group work in accordance with the Alberta Health Guidelines and will take place in school or community indoor or outdoor settings, and focus on increasing knowledge, building skills, and fostering abilities that enable others to better their own mental health and wellness.

The MHCB Summer Student is responsible for ensuring all their documentation complies with HIA (Health information Act) and FOIPP and ensures compliance with all relevant AHS policies.

Qualifications & Work Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

Some knowledge of addiction and mental health is preferred

Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social, and recreational needs of children, youth and families

Comfortable with public speaking

Good relationship building skills: friendly and positive.

Good time management skills

Takes initiative and works well with others

Has or is willing to develop skills in facilitation, positive communication, and creative thinking

Good personal and work boundaries

Ability to develop supportive relationships with young people

Able to advocate for and enable others

Creative problemsolving and decisionmaking skills

Networking skills preferred

Knowledge of available local community resources

Capable of collecting basic program statistics

Resilience and a commitment to personal development

Computer skills for collecting information and communicating

All students must provide a criminal record check

Ability to work evening/weekend and summer hours
