Grasslands Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to assist in the off-site portion of a specialized educational program for a Grade 4 student with complex needs. The successful candidate will work as part of a pair and play a critical role in supporting the student’s social, emotional, and academic development in a safe and nurturing environment.

Job Duties:
Be a consistent and positive role model to children and youth.
Work one-on-one with the student to implement the individualized program plan developed by the student's psychiatrist and mental health professionals.
Assist in therapeutic activities such as art therapy, music therapy, and physical activities designed to reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing.
Provide consistent behavioral support and reinforcement of positive behaviors.
Facilitate the student’s participation in academic tasks as outlined in the program plan.
Monitor the student’s emotional state and intervene as necessary to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Collaboration:
Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher, mental health professionals, and Division and school staff to provide updates on the student’s progress.
Participate in regular team meetings to discuss strategies, progress, and any necessary adjustments to the program.
Work closely with the student's parents/guardians to ensure consistency between the home and off-site environments.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of the student’s daily activities, progress, and any incidents.
Provide detailed reports to the support team as required.
Ideal candidates skills & abilities:
Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting children with complex mental health conditions.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Patience, empathy, and a commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for the student.
Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and to deescalate conflicts appropriately.
Strong understanding and appreciation of Grasslands Public Schools mission and values.
Proven Cultural, Diversity and Inclusion Competencies and able to apply these competencies to all aspects of the job.
Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
Flexible and able to work independently, as a team and with community agencies.
Strong organizational and time management skills and the able to prioritize multiple demands.

Preferred Education & Experience:
Post-secondary Education or Relevant Training is an asset.
Experienced in working with diverse and multicultural populations is considered an asset.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with children with complex needs, including behavioral and emotional challenges.
Previous experience in a therapeutic or educational setting is preferred.
