A School Intervention Clinician specializing in H and R designated students provides targeted support and assistance within educational settings. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' mental health needs, including risk assessments, clinical interviews, and behavioral scales.

Develop individualized treatment/education plans for students that are align with evidence-based practices and align with school policies and procedures.

Implement therapeutic interventions, such as individual and group therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation, to support students' mental health and wellbeing.

Work collaboratively with school staff and families to ensure that students receive coordinated care that meets their unique needs.

Provide consultation and support to teachers and other school staff on issues related to mental health/wellness and behavior management.

Participate in case conferences, school-based teams, and other meetings with school staff and external stakeholders to promote collaboration and effective communication.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student assessments, treatment/education plans, and progress notes.

Ensure that all services are provided in accordance with relevant legal, ethical, and professional standards.

Facilitate an intervention team that works with school-based teams to provide specialized expert clinical interventions to students referred to district-based teams.

Provide acute crisis intervention and risk management.

Work with the school/district-based team to identify emerging student needs throughout the district.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A graduate degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field.

A teaching degree is preferred not required.

Certified membership/registration or current eligibility for certification/registration with a relevant regulatory body in Canada (e.g. Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), Canadian Professional Counselling Association (CPCA), BC Association of Clinical Counselors (BCACC), College of Psychologists of British Columbia (CPBC).

Minimum of 3 years of post-degree experience in the provision of mental health services to children, youth, and families.

Knowledge of normative development, psychopathology and psychiatric disorders of children and youth,

Demonstrated expertise and a strong knowledge of and ability to explain attachment theory, social and cognitive development.

Knowledge of evidence-based practices for treating mental health disorders in children and adolescents.

Working knowledge of computers.

Ability to provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of child and youth care programs.

The ability to function independently and demonstrate sound clinical judgment in the assessment and treatment of children and youth with mental health concerns.

Ability to direct staff in the application of suicide risk assessments and crisis interventions, as well as to identify, analyze and assess emerging issues and develop and implement effective responses and/or strategies.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including school staff, families, and community partners, and to use tact, discretion, and persuasion in frequent contacts with students, staff, parents, community partners, and the public in dealing with highly sensitive issues.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to mental health and education in Canada.

Ability to assess and facilitate moderate and severe behavior designations.

Experience and knowledge of working with children at-risk.

PLEASE NOTE

The starting annual salary for this School Teacher position ranges from $50,000 to $104,000, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
