POSITION SUMMARY
Durham Bone and Joint Specialists (DBJS) is committed to delivering orthopaedic care, within a system that provides accessibility and quality, in managing acute and chronic musculoskeletal related illnesses. Established in 2019, our team currently includes 8 orthopaedic surgeons and 8 Advanced Practice Providers, who work within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment to meet the growing needs of Durham region patients.
We are looking for a Clinical Specialist - Orthopedic Device Sales to join the DBJS team. The Specialist will work with the DBJS clinical team to support patients who require medical and clinical supplies for their conservative and surgical care needs.
The successful candidate will work directly with patients to evaluate their needs, identifying evidence-based products for supporting recommended treatment plans, provide education on correct application of the products and will provide follow-up care to ensure successful patient outcomes.
This position will require the candidate to have a strong understanding of orthopedic soft goods and medical bracing to support clinical care. Candidates must have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work autonomously to deliver services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of Orthopedic Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers, the successful candidate will:
- Evaluate, assist and position common orthopedic devices on patients, while motivating and suggesting functional activities for our clients to achieve the best outcomes
- Provide education to patients on the application, use, care, and expected outcomes from the utilization of medical devices as indicated by the physician’s instructions and manufacturer recommendations
- Measure and position prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses, such as cervical orthoses, knee braces, ankle walkers, arch supports and pressure gradient hose
- Prepare clinical notes and progress reports, document treatments performed, and review any required adjustments to plan of care with the clinical team
- Passionate in maintaining relationships with industry vendors and seeking out new solutions to best treat patients and strategically grow product offerings
- Support required administrative, billing requirements and maintain inventory
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2 years of Sales Representative experience related to healthcare products or services, required
- Experience working in a Sports Medicine environment or as a Physiotherapist, Kinesiologist or a related position, preferred
- Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences or Kinesiology, Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion (or related), is an asset
- Registered Technician in Orthotics or Prosthetics with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) or membership with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologist Certification, is an asset
- Subject matter expert in orthotic devices, instilling confidence in patients and surgeons
- Experience in fitting soft goods and medical bracing in a clinical environment, preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of anatomical structures and relationships with one another and the ability to describe orthopedic conditions
- Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, make decisions and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries
- Superior work ethic, professionalism and reliability; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service
- Superior written/oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to effectively convey factual and detailed clinical findings
