Overview of the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director to join our Commercial team within our Affinity division. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and expanding our commercial Property & Casualty insurance portfolio by developing strong client relationships, providing expert advice, and ensuring the delivery of tailored insurance solutions that meet the complex needs of our clients. You will work across a range of product lines, particularly D&O, E&O, CGL, Property and Cyber among others. You will play a critical role in driving business growth and maintaining high service standards. Your ability to identify risks, negotiate competitive terms with insurers, and deliver exceptional client service will be key to your success in this role.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs and providing expert guidance on risk management and insurance solutions.
  • Portfolio Growth: Actively seek new business opportunities, identify potential clients, and develop strategies to expand the commercial insurance portfolio.
  • Policy Placement: Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with insurers to secure the most competitive and comprehensive coverage for clients.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk profile assessments for clients, identifying exposures and recommending appropriate coverage options.
  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and emerging risks to provide informed advice to clients and enhance the brokerage's offerings.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support brokers, sharing knowledge and best practices to develop their skills and capabilities.


Key Skills and Capabilities:

  • Industry Expertise: Extensive knowledge of the commercial P&C insurance market, including various types of coverage specifically D&O and E&O, underwriting practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Client-Centric Approach: Strong ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships through excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in risk assessment, policy analysis, and market research to provide clients with well-informed insurance solutions.
  • Negotiation: Proven track record of successfully negotiating insurance terms with carriers to secure favourable outcomes for clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail in policy placement, documentation, and compliance.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and mentor staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Sales Acumen: Strong business development skills with the ability to identify new opportunities and drive portfolio growth.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex insurance concepts to clients and stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial insurance brokerage
  • Strong understanding of commercial P&C insurance products and claims processes
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field is an asset
  • Proficiency in insurance management software and Microsoft Office
  • RIBO license; CIP, CAIB, additional provincial licensing is an asset.
