The Recreation Therapist is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation intervention for a select group of patients. Work involves integrating therapeutic recreation knowledge in the provision of activities Therapeutic activities provided by the Recreation Therapist include the use of the on-site therapy pool. Services provided include consultation and community outreach. The Recreation Therapist assesses clients in relation to therapeutic recreation and functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Bachelor in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent from a recognized program – combination of a Therapeutic Recreation Diploma and Degree in Child and Youth Care). Eligible for the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS designation) Two (2) years of recent related experience. Valid Class 4 Driver’s License. Eligible for professional membership in the Therapeutic Recreation Association and the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation AssociationYou will also have
Demonstrated skills in the areas of recreation program planning and leadership. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in groups, one-on one and in writing. Demonstrated ability to assess and interact with patients and families by applying knowledge of therapeutic recreation. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work. Demonstrated ability to teach adults and children. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment. Ability to travel. Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
